The word forge has the connotation of red hot molten steel flowing with steam pouring out and people sweating. How do you build a forge? With a little spark of imagination and intentionality. It may begin as a fleeting idea. You spend a few minutes here and there with the idea. You take a few minutes here and there to doodle, write, or create a Lego structure. You wonder who might give you advice. You start adding time to work on your idea to your calendar. You are creating something that will be used to create even more things. There may only be a few minutes a day to work on this vision. You discuss your vision with people you trust. Together you create a team of advisors to discuss and refine your ideas. Building a forge takes energy, raw materials, planning and time. It requires many people working together to create.

Once built it looks easy. Yet, the forging process is made up of many small steps: pulling together the funding and management, finding a location, hiring the right builders, training the employees, working safely, developing new processes to manufacture different products, creating safety processes that keep workers alive and healthy for the long haul. How does this get done? With small daily steps: showing up on time, deciding on daily production goals, setting long-term budgets, running daily safety meetings, measuring production by the hour, maintaining relationships with suppliers, coordinating safety drills with the local rescue squads, etc. It all begins with a few minutes here and a few minutes there, every day.

Anna Diaz started life liking puzzles, games, science, math and going to school. The liking school did not last very long but her love of learning lasted. Her Father had always told her that if she went to college she would do well, but if she wanted to do really well she had to start her own business. Here was the dilemma because she did not see anything that really called her attention. She knew people who owned stories, bakeries, garages and factories who worked even when the business was closed. She studied chemical engineering and worked in manufacturing before joining the consulting world. Eventually she met people who were enjoying both their work and their lives. Now she helps protect people and businesses from identity theft and gives them the ability to talk to an attorney without worrying about the high hourly cost.
