Comfortable Distance ~ Corinna Stoeffl
We keep a comfortable distance in many areas of our lives. It could be in a relationship, in business, with money, with self, to name just a few.
What do I mean by distance? How would I keep a distance to myself or someone I love?
As the name says, it is a distance at which we feel comfortable, close yet not too vulnerable. Where we feel we are still in control of things. Can you relate to that? And the distance varies from area to area. Some places we allow for more closeness, in others we choose more distance.
When I heard the first time about ‘comfortable distance’ I just groaned. It made so much sense.
What if we had no comfortable distance at all? What if we chose to be completely vulnerable? How would our world and the world in general change?
To even just shorten the distance, how many JAILS would we need to break out of? How many conclusions, decisions, and firm beliefs would we have to let go of? It seems like a lot of work. Yet using the tools of Access Consciousness, it is not that bad. It is a choice we have to make. Choice trumps everything.
What if you ask the Universe for help: Universe, I am letting go of Comfortable Distance. Show me where I have them and what I can change. You’ll be surprised how quickly the places where you have comfortable distance will show up and, with it, an awareness of what you can change.
And I get that it can be uncomfortable. I had an image of who I am and that is beginning to fall apart. It was built on having the comfortable distances and as I am shrinking them, making a demand on myself to reduce them until they are gone, there is a level of vulnerability that is uncomfortable, where the feeling of getting hurt comes up. I count myself lucky to have people in my life that are showing me that it can be done, that this voice is not valid. And, to be truthful, deep down, I too know that I cannot be hurt by anyone. (I am not talking about being hurt in a physical way)
