What Does Healthy Masculinity Actually Look Like? - Guest Andrew Marshall
Mon. Aug 10 AT 11:00 am ESTYour Healing Playground – Dr. Tina Koopersmith
Not the version built on domination, emotional suppression, or having something to prove.
But the kind of masculinity that is grounded enough to protect, courageous enough to be vulnerable, and wise enough to keep growing.
This week, I sit down with Andrew Marshall—a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, husband, father, transformational coach, and a man who has walked through addiction, recovery, chronic illness, and profound personal transformation.
Andrew embodies something our world desperately needs more of:
Strength without hardness.
Discipline without rigidity.
Presence without performance.
Confidence without arrogance.
A backbone strong enough to support others—and a heart soft enough to truly see them.
Today, Andrew coaches men one-on-one, leads retreats and community gatherings, teaches through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and, perhaps most importantly, lives these principles every day as a husband, father, friend, and guide.
Together we explore what it means to move from proving yourself…to knowing yourself.
If you’ve ever wondered:
- How does a wild young man become a steady, trustworthy leader?
- What does true masculine strength look like?
- How do discipline, meditation, and service shape a life of purpose?
This conversation is for you. Whether you’re a man seeking your own path, a woman wanting to better understand the healthy masculine, or simply someone who believes healing one person can transform generations… Join us. Because healing isn’t about becoming someone else.
It’s about remembering who you’ve been all along.
Andrew Marshall – Here’s the backstory: 20 years old and feeling like a broken down 60 year old. From the ages of 13 to 20 I drank enough for a lifetime. My teenage years were marked by: Fast food daily, Soda and junk food, TV, video games Opiates & alcohol to numb the pain…At its source: unresolved trauma, lack of guidance, self-destructive habits, and not knowing how to take care of myself.
I went monk mode—no dating from 21 to 24. Instead, I dedicated myself to: Meditation Healthy eating Spirituality & self-improvement Jiu Jitsu & boxing (training 6 days a week)
By 25, I was finally able to release alcohol and unhealthy substance dynamics completely.
I realized: To free ourselves from substances, we must heal the core issues behind their use. Since 2016, I have been living the habits and coaching others—on the mat in JiuJitsu, as a dad to my son And in my Coaching practice through one-on-ones, groups and retreats.
Embody The Practice came from this truth:It was the practices that changed my life.Years of Jiu Jitsu, Yoga, Qi Gong, Meditation, Sound Healing, Plant Medicine, and mentorship showed me: The purpose of practice isn’t just to be good at it—it’s to bring its wisdom into daily life.
The theme I’ve witnessed is this: If you never give up on a problem, and you are proactive in your approach, the right person and remedy will eventually show up.
When we bring the right practices, habits, mentors, and coaches into our lives, and we embody the right mindset, life gets better with each passing year.
As Bruce Lee said:
“Don’t pray for an easy life. Pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.”
