Connected Leaders Academy

For decades, psychiatry has trained us to ask “what’s wrong with this person?” Dr. Fred Moss, a psychiatrist for 37 years, spent his career inside that question before walking away from it. In this talk, he makes the case that the discomfort we call symptoms may often be a signal, not a disorder, and that the fastest path to healing isn’t a better diagnosis but a real human connection. Drawing on decades treating patients from psychiatric wards to prisons to homeless shelters, Fred shares what he learned when he stopped trying to fix people and started trying to see them. This talk will leave you questioning the labels you’ve been handed, and maybe a few you’ve been carrying.

Dr. Fred Moss is a Recovering Psychiatrist with 46 years in mental health, 37 as a board-certified psychiatrist. Known as The UnDoctor, he challenges the diagnosis-and-medication model that has come to define modern psychiatry, arguing instead that human connection is the foundation of all healing. He is the founder of the Welcome to Humanity movement and author of Welcome to Humanity: A Psychiatrist’s Memoir and Case Against the Mental Health System, along with Find Your True Voice and Creative 8. Over his career he has worked across inpatient units, homeless shelters, prisons, and telepsychiatry, and has appeared in over 450 conversations across podcasts and stages. His work invites clinicians and the public alike to see the person before the pathology. He lives in Grass Valley, California.
