Is Your Sensitivity a Superpower? ~ Danna Lewis

“The real warriors in this world are the ones that see the details of another’s soul.” ― Shannon L. Alder

Have you been told you’re ‘too sensitive’; ‘moody’; or even ‘high-maintenance’ because you’re so deeply affected by sights, sounds, smells and information? That was certainly me, especially when I was a child. My mom always said I was the sensitive, moody one and she would try to find the ‘reason’ or ‘physical diagnosis’ for what felt like a wrongness at the time.

Strolling through the mall one afternoon, I must have been 12 or so, I experienced a rush of emotions from happy to sad to weak to dizzy. It was so intense I had to sit down and my mom, who had decided it must be low blood sugar, attempted to handle the situation with food. It was decades before I had the information to know I wasn’t experiencing low blood sugar, I was, instead, being fueled by the thoughts, feelings and emotions of all the people I was encountering on our stroll through the mall.

It was also decades before I acknowledged that I have the innate ability to pick up on every sense: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch and awareness in a magnified way. Someone once asked me (while also implying as my awareness perceived) if this was a burden, a disability, in my life. There have been moments and sometimes days where I have chosen the point of view that it was a burden. However, the many experiences I’ve had and witnessed with others who are empathic strongly shows me the possibilities we can choose with our gifts. Our superpowers.

And I’ve seen well outside of my circle of friends and colleagues, with the famous Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Nicole Kidman, Alannis Morrissette, Jewel and Michael Jordan. Who have all shared their gifts with the world. These highly successful people are/were are all also highly sensitive. They have tapped into their superpowers in unique and undeniable ways, even calling attention to their high sensitivity and empathic nature.

Singer/songwriter Jewel in her famous “I’m Sensitive” song, sings:
“So please be careful with me, I’m sensitive
And I’d like to stay that way.
I have this theory, that if we’re told we’re bad
Then that’s the only idea we’ll ever have…”
Are you highly sensitive? An empath? Does this information hit home and pique your curiosity?

On my Luscious Leadership Radio Show, we’ll be taking a deep dive into the world, possibly your world, of the multi-dimensional awareness of the weight of human experience for highly sensitive people. We’ll be looking at:
What is an HSP?
What is an Empath?
How do we translate the sensitivity to superpowers from your living room to the board room?
